Future Markets are Under Seasonal Pressure

This week’s Market News update features important information regarding the baking industry. Continue reading for highlights: 


WHEAT: Futures markets are under some seasonal pressure as the row crop harvest is set to begin later this month. Canada’s StatCan production release showed major declines year over year in several crops as a result of drought conditions. Posted Basis values continue to be steady as railroads are performing well and farmers continue to sell wheat at these price levels.

EGGS: Wholesale prices for cartoned shell eggs moved lower through the week on more than adequate supplies and waning interest. Offerings remain manageable but the pace of trading is slow as buyers are selective. Wholesale prices for graded loose eggs declined through the week on adequate supplies and offerings. Consumer demand for shell eggs moved lower over the past week despite increased retail promotional activity at attractive sale prices.
