This week’s Legacy Market News Report has lots of information regarding flour, eggs, and produce supply and demand levels. Some of the key takeaways from the report are listed below. You can see the full report by clicking here.
BROCOLLI — Monitoring numbers again this week. Continued warm weather causing slow growth and low yields. Industry quality showing very low percentage of brown bead/pin-rot. Working through aggressively at field level for cleanest product. Prices are very high!
GREEN ONIONS — Looks like supplies are good and the quality is very good, however the market is up a little.
SQUASH — Zucchini and yellow will be extremely light off the coast. The heat also took its toll on these plants, also this past week weather was very cool, so the plants did not get a chance to push.
SPRING MIX — Good quality and color, slight light texture from heat. We will closely monitor shelf life from warm weather patterns.
STRAWBERRIES — The strawberry deal is very short and will remain short this week. Still dealing with weather issues. Production numbers seem to drop every day. We expect volumes to continue to decrease for the next several weeks. Cool temperatures, fruit quality defects, and labor challenges have led us to adjust our forecast. This week temperatures have materialized 2-4 degrees cooler than forecasted. A thick layer of fog has too contributed to a higher level of fruit quality defects, impacting volume. Growers are exhausting all efforts to make sure we pack quality fruit. As a result of that effort, volumes have reduced. Our summer plantings are ramping up slowly, and we do not expect to see stronger volumes for another 3 weeks.
