How to Introduce Health-Conscious Sweets in 2021

There are times in everyone’s life when they crave something sweet. Unfortunately, for most health-conscious consumers, sweets are thought of as a big no-no. However, with observation and careful planning, there are ways to responsibly indulge.

Clean Ingredients

Clean ingredients are simple, natural solutions. They contain no chemical or artificial additives.

Organic foods are grown without the use of antibiotics, hormones, or artificial chemicals. This prevents the potentially unhealthy introduction of foreign substances into your nutrition sources. Luckily, organic foods are fairly easy to find. They are labeled “certified organic” and held to strict rules during production.

Genetically-modified organisms, or GMOs, are plants or animals that have been altered at a genetic level in a laboratory prior to production. There is currently no non-GMO certification system. However, non-GMO products are becoming more commonplace on menus everywhere. The Non-GMO Project provides a list of verified non-GMO foods and products.

No Additives

Many different kinds of chemical additives are used to alter food’s flavor, texture, shelf life, and more. While many products are labeled “additive-free,” there is no regulation governing the label. As a result, the best way to be sure is to check the ingredients themselves. Avoid products containing unfamiliar ingredients. Look instead for products that contain simple, recognizable ingredients

Healthy Recipe Ideas

There are a number of ways to make sweets healthier. One way is to reduce the sugar content. Many dessert recipes contain a great deal of sugar. In most cases, you can reduce the amount of sugar by half and still have a delicious-tasting treat. Consider using a sugar substitute, such as honey or fruit juice. This offers a healthy alternative to cane sugar. Additionally, consider using whole grain flour in baked goods. This gives you greater nutritional benefits than all-purpose flour.

All-Natural Menu Items

By using additive-free, non-GMO, and organic ingredients, it’s possible to create all-natural alternatives to existing recipes. Some products that are all-natural by default, or easy to convert to all-natural include fruit pastries, pudding, and baked goods. Some examples can be found here. There are also many ready-made all-natural products, such as ice cream.
